Galentine’s Day: This One’s For The Girls

“No one achieves anything alone.” – Leslie Knope

In honor of Leslie Knope and women everywhere, we celebrated Galentine’s Day early! It’s no secret that I’m a huge supporter of women lifting each other up and supporting each other, so why not take an entire day to celebrate?

This year, a few of my creative friends pulled together some crazy cute Galentine’s Day looks and, of course, there was dessert.

Wondering how to celebrate this beloved holiday this year? Here are some last minute ideas!

  • Bachelor Marathon – You know you’re behind and you’re going to text your friends GIFs as you’re watching anyways.
  • KARAOKE – Honestly, one of the best nights of my life involved my best friends and karaoke on a Tuesday night. Just a thought.

  • Go to a bakery. Buy everything you’ve wanted to try. Eat it together, calories don’t count on Galentine’s Day.
  • Parks & Rec Marathon – You have Leslie Knope to thank for this holiday anyways.
  • Chick flick – Go see an embarrassingly cheesy movie. Laugh the whole time. One year, I saw a Nicholas Sparks movie with several sorority sisters and cried the entire time. It was a good night.

Galentine's Day

Wishing you the happiest of Galentine’s Days. Maybe your work day be short and your friendships be long.

Valentine’s Day Outfit + 5 Things I’m Obsessed With

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dress: Nordstrom | Shoes: J. Crew | Necklace: Made By Mary With Love

First of all, I’m obsessed with this color. I blame Meghan Markle (actually I blame her for a lot of my fashion choices lately). I’m a sucker for a statement piece with some flexibility. This dress is a casual enough fabric that you can dress it up, dress it down, wear it for a date night or just to chill. Oh, did I mention that it’s under $50? It’s actually under $25 right now.

What else am I obsessed with?

Magenta Lipstick –  I’ve been wearing this liquid lipstick for years. I know most people are past this trend, but if you’re getting ready for a date night or girl’s night out and you don’t want to reapply, this is the product for you. It’s worth every penny. One caveat: it doesn’t go super duper well with greasy food, so you may want to skip cheese fries. Feel free to drink wine with no worries about leaving a lipstick print on your glass though.

What Happens When Women Say Yes to God by Lysa Terkeurst – Ok, so if you’re trying to change your spiritual life in 2019, you need this book. I started in December and I’ve gone slowly through this to re-read, because everything seems to be applying to my heart right now. Lysa challenges women to dig deeper into the Word, look for ways to say yes to God and find where you’re saying no. If you want to be convicted, this will do it.

Early Mornings – My mom will tell you that I’m not a morning person. She’s not wrong, but she’s not completely right. I’ve been doing my best to become a morning person. I’m great at “wake up at 4:45AM to eat breakfast before work” but it’s impossible for me to wake up between 7AM – 8AM. 2019 is the year that I get my butt out of bed. Part of it is to be a healthier person, physically. The other part is spiritual health. I think this means I’m a real adult now.

Speaking My Mind – I don’t mean just saying whatever I want, I already do that. It’s more along the lines of complimenting people whenever I think a nice thought. If someone I see has amazing hair, I’m going to tell her and I’ll probably ask her about haircare. It makes others feel like they matter and it feels so good to get a compliment.

Building A Community – This is something that I’ve truly struggled with for the past three years. Some of it has been my fault, other times it’s been due to circumstance. Lately, I feel like I’ve been building a sweet community of talented, creative, and caring women. It’s been so amazing to see how it grows and what connections can be made. I’m excited to deepen these relationships, old and new.

Scarf Under $20 | Fall Fashion

One of my favorite parts of fall fashion is the accessories. Scarves, hats, gloves, boots… I could go on for hours. It’s my mom’s fault, she made me this way. Anyways, there are two secrets to looking pulled together during the colder months: a good scarf and a nice pair of boots. We’ll get to the boots at a later date. Let’s talk SCARVES.

My favorite scarf (so far) is this super soft grey scarf from H&M. I got it for $10, because I refuse to pay full price for most things but it’s under $20 at full price. Not only does it come in this pretty heather grey, but it comes in black, camel, pink and baby blue. Do you own a body and live in a place where the temperature drops below fifty? Then this is the scarf for you. I have the grey, I have plans to own the camel scarf in the near future.

Your question may be WHERE do I find scarves for under $20 that are still good quality? Could we go to Target or Old Navy and find something cute? Yes. Is T.J. : going to have something adorable? Absolutely. BUT I think you can easily find something for a similar price and maybe for a slightly higher quality at these places H&M, J. Crew or Zara.

The Most Comfortable Bralette In the World

Finding a good bra is tough, so when you find one you shout it from the rooftops. I’ve found the PERFECT bralette, so I thought I’d share a full length review (and a discount code at the end of this post) with you!

This is the Geo Lace Bralette from LIVELY! It’s gorgeous, supportive and you won’t be racing to take it off at the end of the day. This is an all-day, all-night piece that you can wear anywhere while feeling confident and comfortable. My favorite part of this bralette is the band; it’s made of a thinner elastic that gives it more of a ‘bra’ feeling, but it’s so stretchy that it doesn’t compress and leave marks.

The selling point for me was that this style puts the bra in bralette. It has three sets of substantial hooks in the back and adjustable, silky straps. If you’re uncomfortable with the typical frothy, unlined bralette, this is the one for you. It gives just enough support without feeling like a straight-up bra. It’s unlined which normally makes me feel self-concious, but this bralette gives just enough coverage.

I believe in LIVELY because they make pretty, comfortable bras for women of all sizes and this one definitely hits that mark. The Geo Lace bralette starts at 32AA and ranges to 38D; they also have ‘busty bralettes’ for the well-endowed woman and LIVELY has said that they’re currently working to expand their line past 38DDD. LIVELY believes in making products that make every woman feel beautiful while also being extremely comfortable. They don’t buy into the ‘beauty is pain’ mentality. They’ve even recently expanded their brand into loungewear (which I haven’t tried yet, but will soon).

If you made it this far into the post, YAY! Here’s what you’re really here for: the discount code. For $10 off your first LIVELY purchase, use AMB-itsjessicaem. Yes, I’m an ambassador for LIVELY, mostly because I’m head-over-heels in love with their products. I could talk about how amazing this company is all day. Happy bra shopping!

Mad About Plaid Dress & Layering

Let’s be honest, plaid is just the winter version of gingham. So after a summer full of gingham, plaid should be in your fall/winter wardrobe. When I found this plaid dress from Zara, I knew it would be the perfect addition to my growing fall wardrobe.

This is my first fall back in Minnesota since 2012 and I realized that my wardrobe is lacking. This plaid dress was a no brainer because it checked the big three ‘fall wardrobe’ requirements for me: it was under $50, it can be dressed up/down, and it can be layered.

Let’s talk layering. If you’re up North like me, listen up. To my lovely southern followers who’ve trailed me from Atlanta: keep this in mind for your Instagram pictures in January. I’ve seen this dress worn multiple ways and I’ll be sure to update with the different ways I style this throughout the winter. Yes, this is a little bit thinner than your typical winter dress but make this length work. This dress is short enough to be considered a tunic, it could absolutely be worn with leggings. I saw someone style it with pixie pants to make it office appropriate (you do you, girlfriend). I’m planning on throwing a turtleneck on under this bad boy at some point.

plaid dress with slouchy sweater

To be frank, my first thought when I tried this on was this is very Little House on the Prairie but my new mantra this season is “boxy is better.” This cut will look fantastic on most body types. Honestly, it would probably look better on a curvier woman than myself. Anyways, boxy is in and it’s not just for sweaters anymore.  For ladies that run cold, boxy means you can wrap yourself up under the dress and still look amazing. Boxy is good.

Enough about the dress, moving on to accessories. A solid black cardigan will take you far. Mine is old, but I’ll link some similar ones down below. I invested in this one a few years ago and it hasn’t let me down yet. My panama hat: Target. Meghan Markle made me do it and I’ll never look back.

And the OTK boots… I said I’d never do it. I didn’t know that they’re basically leg warmers from this decade so I’m on board now. They also tend to garner lots of compliments from strangers. The first time I wore mine, a lady stopped a phone conversation in the Target parking lot and said “YOU LOOK SO CUTE” so if you don’t believe me, believe her. I love you, Target Parking Lot Lady.

hats off to plaid dresses

Ok, that’s all from me for now. Thank you for sticking with me during my stalling when it comes to writing new posts. Thanks for reading this rambling mess. Thanks for liking my stuff on Instagram. Here are the links you came for.
